.. | Jay Lehmer, Outreach Coordinator (Con't) you could ACTUALLY hunt with a bird of prey, well......you can guess the rest. The falconer's name was Johnny Kennedy and we struck up a great friendship and hunted rabbits with his RT whenever I was in town for a visit. I was hooked. I read anything and everything I could find about falconry and hunted with Johnny for two years. I took the exam and got my apprentice permit at the age of 15 in 1975 and flew Kestrels and a Redtail , moved to Texas in 1977 after high school, upgraded to general status and began flying Harris' hawks. Since then I have flown Kestrels,Redtails, Harris', Prairie falcons, Peregrine falcons and Gyr hybrids. I currently fly a Gyr/Peregrine tiercel on ducks. I have been a THA member since 1979, have served two terms as Northern Director and one term as Director at Large. I'm also a life member of the Dallas Safari Club and do falconry educational programs for their youth program twice a year at Greystone Castle. I am also an avid bow-hunter and fly-fisherman. It is my pleasure to serve THA in this position.
